Indian Railway is owned and operated by the Government of India under the control of Ministry of Railways. Ever since its inception in 1853, it has been serving the nation relentlessly. Most of the people in India travel by trains.
There are several classes of travel in the trains, which are either air conditioned or non air conditioned. The number of classes present in each train varies. There are only unreserved classes in passenger trains, while Duronto Express, Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express trains have only air-conditioned classes. The ticket fares also vary accordingly. Tickets in unreserved classes are the cheapest while in Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains the ticket fares include food as well. But in other trains you have to buy food by paying cash. Long-distance trains usually have a pantry car attached to serve food to the travelers.
AC First Class, AC two-tier, AC three-tier, First Class, Executive Class Chair Cars, Second Class, Second Sleeper Class, etc., are the different classes found in the trains. The Executive Class is air conditioned with spacious seats and is found only in Shatabdi Express.
At the end of the train is the Guard’s cabin, where the guard stays. It is fitted with a transceiver. The train leaves the station only after the guard gives the all clear signal. Every compartment in Indian Railway has a chain, which can be pulled in case of emergency to activate the train’s emergency brakes and stop the train. Misuse of this chain will lead to legal action, which includes fine as well as imprisonment.
